NBA Star Dwight Howard featured in outreach DVD

Dwight Howard, the NBA All Star of the Orlando Magic, is quickly becoming a legend on the hardwood.

Growing up Howard attended Southwest Atlanta Christian School. A devout Christian since his youth, Howard became serious about basketball around the age of nine; in eighth grade, he resolved to be selected as the number one pick in the NBA Draft one day. Howard was widely recognized as the best American high school basketball player, and he was awarded the Naismith Prep Player of the Year Award, the Morgan Wootten High School Player of the Year Award, Gatorade National Player of the Year and the McDonald's National High School Player of the Year honor.

The Orlando Magic made Dwight the first overall pick in the 2004 NBA Draft. He was named to the All Rookie Team and was the youngest player in history to average over 10 points and 10 rebounds in a season. In the 2005-06 season, Dwight pulled down an amazing 26 rebounds in a single game versus the Philadelphia 76ers! Dwight was also named ESPN's NEXT athlete of 2007.

A three-time NBA All-Star, three-time All-NBA member, two-time NBA All-Defensive member, and on April 21 2009, Howard became the youngest player ever to win the NBA Defensive Player of the Year Award, achieving a goal he had set for himself before the start of the season. He has also been ranked consistently as one of the best in the league in field goal percentage and set numerous NBA records.

In the 2008 Olympics, he was the starting center for Team USA which went on to win the gold medal. Howard's overall play and his spectacular dunks have gained him prominence as one of the brightest young prospects in the NBA and the team leader of the Magic. Additionally, Howard, the winner of the NBA 2008 Slam Dunk Contest, is a devout Christian who contributes substantially to philanthropic causes.

"I want to be one of the best players in the league before I finish playing. I've got the talent and the heart and the right mindset to accomplish that goal. I know I can do it," says Dwight Howard.
